Depression is widely experienced. It is true to say that most
of us will feel mild to severe depression at some point in our
lives. The depressed person will feel lethargic, tearful, and
lacking the motivation to deal with the day to day duties of
everyday life. They may find that they are sleeping for significant
periods during the day, but not able to sleep at night. They
will feel constantly tired and irritable. The slightest problem
will frustrate them and cause unreasonable outbursts. It is likely
that several associated physical symptoms may occur, and they
may not initially recognise that they are depressed. This would
be a persistent low mood (lasting for at least two weeks) accompanied
by:
Tiredness, digestive problems, loss of appetite, sleeplessness,
headaches, irritability, lower back pain, tearfulness, loss of
concentration and poor memory.
Stressful life events can cause depression!
